Green tea compound EGCG slows weight gain in mice According to another study involving obese mice, those that took green tea compound EGCG along with their high-fat diet experienced significantly slower weight gain compared with controls who didn’t use any green tea supplements at all.
Two groups of mice were fed a high-fat diet. Mice supplementing their high-fat diet with green tea extract or EGCG compound gained weight 45% slower compared to mice receiving only an identical diet without supplementation from either source, suggesting that taking green tea extract or EGCG may help increase weight loss more slowly. These results indicate supplementing with green tea or EGCG will aid weight loss over time.
Mice fed green tea compound also experienced slower weight gain and showed a nearly 30 per cent increase in their fecal lipids, suggesting that fat absorption had been restricted by EGCG. Thus not only does EGCG reduce absorption ability, but it may also enhance utilization ability.
Appetite was not effectively suppressed by green tea; both groups of mice could feed at any time and consumed similar quantities of high-fat food.
